South Bank With Your Dog
South Bank is one of Brisbane's most dog-welcoming precincts. We're proud to be part of that.
Poppies Southbank welcomes well-behaved dogs in our outdoor alfresco area on Little Stanley Street. We love seeing our four-legged regulars — and South Bank more broadly is one of the most dog-friendly precincts in Brisbane. Here's everything you need to know to make a day of it.
Dining With Your Dog at Poppies
Our outdoor alfresco seating on Little Stanley Street is fully dog-friendly. Bring your dog, find a table outside, and enjoy brunch or dinner while they settle in beside you. We'll bring a water bowl on request — just ask your server. We do ask that dogs remain on a lead and are comfortable around other guests and animals. Well-behaved dogs of all sizes are welcome.
Walking the South Bank Parklands
The South Bank Parklands are dog-friendly on-lead, with some exceptions around the lagoon pool area. The river walk is a favourite for dogs and their owners — it's wide, shaded in parts, and has plenty of interesting smells along the way. The Parklands are best in the morning before the crowds build, or in the late afternoon when the temperature drops.
Dog-Friendly Spots Nearby
Little Stanley Street itself is a great strip for a dog walk — wide footpaths, outdoor dining, and generally relaxed foot traffic. The Grey Street end of the precinct connects to the Cultural Forecourt, which is a large open space that dogs tend to enjoy. For a longer walk, the riverside path extends south toward West End and north toward the CBD, both of which are dog-friendly.
Timing Your Visit
Morning is the best time to bring your dog to South Bank. The Parklands are quieter, the temperature is cooler, and the outdoor tables at Poppies are at their best in the morning light. We open at 6:15am Monday to Friday and 7am on weekends — early enough to beat the heat and the crowds. If you're coming in the afternoon, aim for after 4pm when the temperature starts to ease.
What to Know Before You Come
Dogs are welcome in our outdoor area only — not inside the venue. Please keep your dog on a lead at all times. If your dog is anxious around other animals or people, the quieter weekday mornings are a better fit than busy weekend brunch service. We genuinely love dogs and want the experience to be relaxed for everyone — including your pup.
