The South Bank Morning

There's a version of South Bank that most people never see. We open at 6:15am — here's what you're missing.

South Bank before 9am is a different place entirely. The Parklands are quiet, the river is still, and the light comes in low and golden across the water. It's the version of this precinct that belongs to the early risers — the joggers, the dog walkers, and the people who know that the best seat at breakfast is the one you get before the crowds arrive.

Start With Coffee

We serve Allpress Espresso from the moment we open — 6:15am Monday to Friday, 7am on weekends. There's something about that first flat white of the morning, sitting outside on Little Stanley Street while the city is still waking up, that sets the tone for the whole day. If you're visiting South Bank for the first time, this is the way to start.

The Parklands Walk

After breakfast, the South Bank Parklands are at their absolute best in the morning hours. The path along the river is quiet enough to actually enjoy, the lagoon pool area is peaceful before the families arrive, and the view back across the river to the CBD skyline is genuinely one of the best in Brisbane. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the full length at a relaxed pace — or longer if you stop to take it in.

What to Order

Our brunch menu is built for mornings. The Classic Benny — pan-fried kale, soft poached eggs, and hollandaise on thick-cut sourdough — is the one people come back for. The Poppies Avo Toast with herb-marinated feta and dukkah is a close second. Both are on the menu from the moment we open. If you want something lighter, our granola and the Allpress cold brew are a good combination.

Timing

If you want the quietest experience, aim for before 8am on weekdays or before 8:30am on weekends. By 9am on a Saturday the precinct starts to fill up quickly, and by 10am Little Stanley Street is buzzing. The morning window is genuinely worth setting an alarm for — especially in the cooler months when the outdoor tables are perfect.

Getting Here Early

South Bank train station is a 5-minute walk from Little Stanley Street — the train is by far the easiest way to get here in the morning, especially if you're coming from the CBD or inner suburbs. If you're driving, the Grey Street car park opens early and is a short walk through the Parklands. Street parking on Little Stanley Street itself is limited but often available before 8am.

Quick Tips from the Team

1
Best outdoor table: Ask for a spot on the Little Stanley Street side — the morning light hits it perfectly between 7:30 and 9am.
2
Weekday vs weekend: Weekday mornings are significantly quieter. If you want a relaxed experience, Monday to Thursday before 8am is the sweet spot.
3
Bring the dog: Our outdoor area is dog-friendly. Morning is the best time to bring them — cooler, quieter, and more relaxed.

We'll have the coffee ready
